Georgian police prevent smuggling out of Niko Pirosmani painting

Police in Georgia have prevented the smuggling out of teh country of the Niko Pirosmani painting “Kakheti Wine”, Georgian Prosecution said today, Trend reports.


A group of smugglers attempted to take the painting to Azerbaijan and sell it to a Ukrainian businessman for $500,000.


The name of the businessman who planned to take the painting to Russia has not been announced. There was a risk of damaging the painting. It is currently being stored at a Georgian museum of arts.
