Iranian and South African citizens arrested for drug trafficking in Georgia

Georgian police have detained six people for the purchase and possession of drugs today, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.

Director of the Central Criminal Department Mamuka Chelidze said that one of the detainees is an Iranian citizen, who was arrested for the purchase and possession of a large quantity of heroin. The crime is punishable from 8 to 20 years or life imprisonment.

Another detainee is a South African citizen. "Police and officials of the Revenue Service arrested L.M. at the Batumi International Airport while he was trying to smuggle 16 kg of marijuana into Georgia. The crime is punishable from 15 to 20 years or life imprisonment," Agenda.ge cited Chelidze as saying.
