Caucasus once again tops Russia's healthy regions rating

For the third year in a row, Russia's North Caucasus regions have been leaders in the healthy lifestyle ranking, according to the results of a study conducted by RIA Novosti.

The top-3 has not changed compared to last year: Dagestan, Chechnya and Kabardino-Balkaria. Adygea was ranked fourth with significantly improved indicators (11th place last year). The Krasnodar Territory was ranked fifth.

The following indicators were analyzed: the proportion of the population doing sports, tobacco use, alcohol consumption, the number of identified persons who committed crimes in the state of alcohol and drug intoxication, mortality from accidental alcohol poisoning, and the percentage of people employed at work with harmful and (or) dangerous working conditions.

Most regions of the North Caucasus have low rates of tobacco use and alcohol consumption, as well as low number of those engaged in work with harmful working conditions.

In terms of the share of the population doing sports, Kuban and Dagestan are leaders in Russia, other regions of the North Caucasus Federal District and the Southern Federal District have average results, the study said.

According to the Russian Ministry of Sports, the largest share of the population doing sports lives the Krasnodar Territory (49.8%). Dagestan ranks third in the all-Russian rating (47.3%).
