Putin: U.S. uses dollar as political weapon

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that U.S. policies of using the dollar as a political tool will backfire.

“With respect to the U.S. dollar, it is a special topic to discuss," he said at the Russian Energy Week forum.

"We can see that the dollar is used as a political weapon, which is another major blunder, because the dollar used to have a lot of confidence worldwide,” CNBC cited the Russian leader as saying.

“It was the only universal currency globally but all of a sudden, the United States started using dollar settlements as a tool of political struggle and impose limitations on the use of dollar," Putin added.
