Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi confirmed that the Iranian-owned oil tanker Sabiti had been attacked in the Red Sea today and was damaged.

"The responsibility of this incident, including the serious environmental pollution, falls on the perpetrators of this reckless act," Mousavi said, adding that investigations are continuing.

The National Iranian Tanker Company said the hull of the vessel was hit by two separate explosions about 100 km off the Saudi coast. It was added the blasts were "probably caused by missile strikes," the AFP reported.
