Georgia. Program 2015

Read on the website Vestnik Kavkaza

Prime Minister of Georgia Nika Gilauri has presented to the parliament of the country the program of economic development of the country until 2015.

It’s strange why the year 2015 was chosen as the boundary mark. The parliamentary elections in Georgia will take place in 2012 and the presidential elections in 2013. The fact that the government has elaborated a development program until 2015 shows that the present-day administration plans to keep power.

At the same time the program itself is an interesting one. The prime minister announced its major principles. They are as follows:

1.      To preserve economic stability, to maintain the budget deficit at a level of 3 per cent, to ban the imposition of new taxes;

2.      To encourage investment and continue to struggle against corruption;
3.      To encourage exports and achieve a trade surplus;
4.      To develop the energy industry, to encourage construction of new power plants and pipelines;

5.      To develop agriculture as a strategically important sphere of production;
6.      To develop the system of public healthcare and social services in general;

7.      To develop the system of education and encourage students’ personal responsibility;
8.      To continue the process of federalization of the country.

That’s the program of the Saakashvili team, which evidently intends to keep power after the 2013 presidential elections.
