Mehriban Aliyeva congratulates Azerbaijan on Baku's inclusion to UNESCO Creative Cities Network
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaFirst Vice President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva congratulated Azerbaijani citizens on Baku's inclusion to UNESCO Network of Creative Cities in the Design category.
"The city of Baku, every day enhancing its beauty by modern architectural buildings, while maintaining its unique historical appearance, was included in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the design category on October 31 - World Cities’ Day," she wrote on her official Instagram page.
Yesterday it was reported that on the occasion of World Cities’ Day, celebrated on 31 October, UNESCO is designating 66 urban settlements that are to join the Organization’s Network of Creative Cities, with Baku on the list in the Design category.
The Network, which now includes a total of 246 members, brings together cities that base their development on creativity, whether in music, arts and folk crafts, design, cinema, literature, digital arts or gastronomy.
UNESCO creative cities commit to placing culture at the centre of their development strategies and to share their best practices.
"All over the world, these cities, each in its way, make culture the pillar, not an accessory, of their strategy. This favours political and social innovation and is particularly important for the young generations," UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay said.
