U.S. sanctions to delay Nord Stream 2 pipeline?

Imposing the U.S. sanctions on the companies laying the Nord Stream 2 pipeline would delay it by over a year, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz said.

"The best outcome, and the outcome that I think is likely, is we stop the pipeline altogether," he stressed at the hearing.

The senator noted that there are two options for introducing sanctions. The first one is the Congress passing the legislation, the second is the administration using its existing authority under CAATSA [the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act] to sanction any company that lays the deep-sea pipe.

"Either way, that is a win-win," Cruz believes.
