Kabardino-Balkarian leader Arsen Kanokov called the measures of the Interior Ministry against terrorist attacks and extremism insufficient, RIA Novosti cites the Kommersant paper as saying.

Unidentified assailants attacked Moscow tourists in Kabardino-Balkaria in mid-February. Three people died and two were injured.

A terrorist attack was prevented on April 6. Two terrorist supporters and a militant were detained. A man with an improvised bomb and a gun was killed earlier.

Kanokov said that the police need to improve counter-terrorist activities in the Elbrus area. Tourism development is part of the development strategy.

There will be more tourists when the counter-terrorism operation is lifted. Kanokov clarified that one of the reasons for dismissing the former parliament is poor preventive measures against terrorism. The new Cabinet will take that into account, he concluded.
