Iran starts constructing airport in Aras free economic zone

Construction of an airport has begun in the Aras free economic zone in Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province, in the presence of the province's governor, Iran News reports.


The project will cost some $12 million.


Governor Ahmed Alireza Beygi noted that Aras has great potential in terms of investing in industry, trade and tourism, thus it needs infrastructure.


The governor noted that the airport is necessary for sustainable economic growth in the zone. It will benefit tourism and investors.


The director of the Aras free economic zone, Ali Reza Mogimi, said that they plan to reconstruct the military airfield of Julfa. The airport will begin operating in the near future.
