State Department: Russia threatens NATO in the Arctic
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaUS Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Michael Murphy said the build-up of Russia's military presence in the Arctic threatens NATO’s anti-submarine defense line in the North Atlantic.
At the same time, he stressed that China also seeks to "challenge the interests of the United States, the West and the allies".
According to Murphy, Russia has created development infrastructure in the Arctic, announced the dispatch of S-400 missile defense systems to the Kola Peninsula, and formed new Arctic units. In his opinion, these actions go beyond the protection of territories, jeopardizing the Faroe-Icelandic border, RIA Novosti reports.
