EU to support Nagorno-Karabakh peace process - 1

The European Union does not play an official role in settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, but in the future it may extend support to the OSCE Minsk Group, for example, by increasing financing of trust, EU Commissioner for Enlargments and Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule said, Trend reports.

Fule said that the EU supports democracy and rule of law in Azerbaijan and Armenia. He expressed hope that the association deal will promote the rapprochement of Azerbaijan, Armenia and the EU and will become a basis for clarity and democracy of the societies of both states.

The countries should prepare for a peaceful settlement of the conflict. The EU will not be reluctant in frozen conflicts. The Lisbon agreement provided new instruments and opportunities that can be used with greater efficiency, Fule added.
