The Turkish opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) described the police raids on municipalities in İzmir and Aydın as political pressure against the CHP-run municipalities ahead of the approaching election, Turkish news agency Hurriyet reports.
“The move is political and bears two motives; one is to tarnish the CHP in the eyes of the public and create question marks in their minds; and the second is to threaten them ahead of the elections,” Umut Oran, deputy leader of CHP told Hurriyet.
