The Russian fleet in the Caspian Sea will receive 16 new combat vessels by 2020, Russian Navy Commander Vladimir Vysotsky said, ANS reports.

New coastal missile aviation groups will be formed via the “South” Command, he said at the Naval Board of the Russian government.

Vysotsky clarified that the Caspian fleet will receive Tatarstan and Volgodonsk motorboats and three landing ships.

The docks of Makhachkala are planned to be extended to station two fleet groups, the ones based in Astrakhan and Makhachkala. Vysotsky believes that the fleet provides security for national companies in the Caspian Sea.
