On the eve of Victory Day celebrations Russian President Dmitry Medvedev bestowed the honorary title ‘City of Military Glory’ to Stary Oskol, Kolpino and Anapa, RIA Novosti reports referring to Kremlin official press-service.

Today there are 33 cities and towns in Russia who have this title after Putin signed the federal law On the Honorary Title of the Russian Federation “City of Military Glory” on May 9, 2006.

The title is bestowed upon the citizenry of Russian cities, where soldiers had displayed courage and heroism during the Great Patriotic War. Cities which have had the status conferred upon them have a monument erected which shows the city’s coat of arms along with the text from the Presidential law, and on Defender of the Fatherland Day, Victory Day and the city's day, public commemorations and celebratory salutes take place.
