Experts assess Shusha's condition (EXCLUSIVE)

The inventory of historical buildings and residential buildings is being completed in Shusha, and the damage caused during the occupation is being assessed, an employee of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communications, member of the working commission on assessment and inventory Elnur Aliyev told Vestnik Kavkaza.

"According to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's instruction, in connection with the measures for restoration and reconstruction in the liberated territories, a commission has been created to assess and inventory monuments and residential buildings. In the city of Shusha, the process is already in its completion phase," Elnur Aliyev said.

According to him, the commission found that apartment buildings in the city have 1-4 rooms, the experts assessed the habitability of buildings and premises. The process of inventorying private houses in Shusha is underway, Elnur Aliyev added.

The condition of historical buildings and cultural sites is being assessed by the experts. The commission is studying the condition of the buildings before the occupation and after.

Elnur Aliyev explained that the commission works in six directions. Soon they will come up with proposals for the restoration of Shusha.

According to the expert, some historical buildings were destroyed or irreparably damaged by the occupants. He cited as an example the property of Azerbaijani General of the Artillery, Minister of Defense of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic Samad bey Mehmandarov's family. Of the several buildings in the complex, only a small family house left; because the occupants used the building as a historical museum. During the occupation, the Khurshidbanu Natavan house-museum was also inflicted colossal damage, part of the building was completely destroyed.
