The first underground gas storage facility has been put into operation in the Seraj area in the town of Qom. Underground tanks are designed to store 3.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, IranNews reports.

At the moment Iran produces about 600 million cubic meters of natural gas daily and, given the level of domestic consumption in the country, underground storage will be required to fill 110 million cubic meters of gas daily.
