The epidemiological situation in Moscow shows steady improvement, with the current rates being at the level of September 2020, Moscow’s mayor, Sergey Sobyanin, told the round-the-clock television news channel Rossiya-24 in an interview, TASS reports.

"The epidemiological situation in Moscow shows constant improvement. On the basis of the current daily or weekly statistics it is impossible to make forecasts and decisions. We took a pause after the New Year holidays in order to see how the situation will be developing. At the moment the disease rates are at last September’s level," Sobyanin said.

Earlier, Sobyanin canceled some coronavirus pandemic restrictions in Moscow starting from January 22. Vocational education establishments, sports schools and museums have reopened and theaters and cinemas can operate at 50% seating capacity.

For the time being all employers have to keep at least 30% of their staff working remotely. People aged over 65 or having chronic diseases must stay at home. Certain restrictions remain on the operation of public catering establishments, night clubs, bars, discotheques, bowling alleys and karaoke bars.
