In memory of Elkhan Aleskerov

Today in Baku, Ph.D. Elkhan Aleskerov is mourned at the age of forty. On January 5, the coronavirus took his life. The director of the expert council of the Baku Network, the deputy general director of the Trend news agency has defended the interests of Azerbaijan all his life and did a lot to strengthen his country's ties with Russia and other states.

In the Dutch city of Osterwijk, a few days after Alaskarov's death, an Azerbaijani flag was hung on the city hall in memory of him. In 2008-2015, Elkhan Aleskerov worked at the Azerbaijani Embassy in the Netherlands, where, among other things, he was engaged in historical research. Then he revealed a story about a Dutch hero, an Azerbaijani, a native of Zagatala Mamed Mammadov ("Medo"), as well as about 22 Azerbaijani prisoners of war during the Second World War who ended up in Holland.

Elkhan Aleskerov is also remembered in Israel, where he collaborated with the Israel-Azerbaijan Association (AzIz). The association says that his vision of the process of peaceful coexistence of the Middle East countries and a comprehensive peace in the South Caucasus allowed those living in Israel to find common ground in these complex processes, hope for help and sincere friendship from Azerbaijani colleagues and friends.

Elkhan Aleskerov was born on March 14, 1955 in Baku. He received his higher education at the Azerbaijan Technical University. He worked at the Azon Research Institute and in the security agencies of Azerbaijan. In 1987 he was deputy chairman of the Friendship society for cultural relations with foreign countries, in 1988 he was deputy chairman of the Veten society of the same orientation. He was a participant in the First Karabakh war, received the military rank of colonel. Since the early 2000s, he worked in the embassies of Azerbaijan, first in Ankara, and then in The Hague. Elkhan Aleskerov was the founder of the "Caucasian Albania" center and the "Caucasus" analytical center, a member of the Public Association of veterans of the Azerbaijani special services and the Writers' Union. For the first scientific research conducted in Azerbaijan about the novel "Ali and Nino", he was awarded the scientific degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Philology.

Elkhan Alaskarov will forever remain in our hearts as a true patriot of his Motherland, a man of high moral qualities and ideals, a man who took the friendship between our countries and peoples to heart, and was always ready to help us in this by word and deed. Everlasting memory!
