The Federal Security Service (FSB) in Russia’s Novosibirsk and Tomsk regions has detained a Russian citizen and a foreign national in an investigation into the funding of the Katibat al-Tawhid wal-Jihad terrorist group, outlawed in Russia, the FSB said in a statement.

"The FSB branch in the Novosibirsk and Tomsk regions carried out investigative activities in Novosibirsk and Tomsk, identifying members of an inter-regional cell of the Katibat al-Tawhid wal-Jihad terrorist group outlawed in Russia, who were involved in the funding of terrorists," TASS cited the statement as saying.

A criminal case has been opened against the two under Article 205.1.1.1 of the Russian Criminal Code (promotion of terrorist activities). The suspects, who transferred money to the bank cards used for the needs of a terrorist organization in 2020, have been taken into custody.
