History Section of Moscow State University meets veterans, ambassador from Armenia
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe History Section of the Moscow State University of Lomonosov has held a meeting with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Armenia to Russia Oleg Yesayan. Veterans of the Great Patriotic War, scientists and teachers of the history section and students were at the meeting.
The meeting was dedicated to the Victory over fascism. celebrated throughout the whole country on May 9, organized by the History Section of the Moscow State University and the Armenian embassy in Russia.
Sergey Karpov, Dean of the History Section, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences and PhD for History, Yefim Pivovar, head of the Moscow State University for the Humanities, head of the History Section for the CIS of the Moscow State university, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences and PhD for History, opened the meeting.
Karpov noted that the History Section is organizing events for CIS officials. They are dedicated to the heroic past of their peoples. The meeting with veterans and the Armenian embassy in Russia is part of the 66th anniversary of the victory.
Oleg Yesayan thanked the heroes of war for their contribution to achieving victory. He pointed out the role of victory in patriotic upbringing the youth. The victory is a great example of strengthening ties between the two states.
The ambassador reminded that the victory did not destroy the fascist ideology, the society needs to fight it and protect the real values of peace and friendship.
The meeting saw a presentation of the book written by Arutyunyan and Pogosyan called "Constribution of Armenian people to victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945".
Co-author of the book Gren Pogosyan said that 600,000 Armenians fought against fascism, 500,000 of them fought together with the Soviet army, 100,000 fought together with coalition forces abroad. There were four Armenian marshals and an admiral.
Georgy Balyan, chairman of the commission for veterans of the Great Patriotic War of the All-Russian Public Organization "Russia's Armenian Union", emphasized that the victory was a result of efforts of all peoples.
Former student and now post-graduate of the Russian State University for the Humanities Tigran Manasyan stressed on tragedies that come from wars and spoke for peaceful means of settling conflicts.
Oksana Solopova, secretary of the History Section of the Moscow State University and deputy head of the CIS section, thanked everyone for participating in the event.
Ismail Agakishiyev, member of the History Section of the Moscow State University and head of the Center for Caucasus Studies of the Russian State University for the Humanities, emphasized the role of the holiday for modern and future generations. The term "national" unites peoples, he said. Agakishiyev reminded about the performance of students from the Moscow State University for the veterans in Baku and singing of the "Victory Day" song.
