The parliament of Abkhazia confirmed the president’s appointment of 52
year-old Roman Mushba as the supreme judge for five years, RIA Novosti
reports, citing a spokesman of the People’s Assembly. The vote was
unanimous.

Roman Chachkovich Mushba was born in 1957 in Gudauta. He gained his
diploma in the historical-juridical department of Abkhaz State
University in 1984, specialising in ‘Legal Science’.

Mushba worked in the juridical service for 25 years before heading the
military court. He was head of the Military Tribunal for 17 years, and
holds a first-class qualification of judge.

In late March 2010, Abkhaz deputies declined the candidature of Rauf
Korua to head the Supreme Court. Korua was appointed to the position
in April 2005.
