Mass rally in North Ossetia
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaA mass rally took place today in Vladikavkaz, the capital of North
Ossetia. The participants in the rally are demonstrating against the
leadership of the South Ossetian president, Eduard Kokoity, Interfax
reports.
According to the law-enforcement agencies, the demonstration was
attended by about a thousand people, mainly natives and residents of
South Ossetia.
One of the organizers of the rally, head coach of Russia in freestyle
wrestling Dzhambolat Tedeev, said that the demonstration was held in
Vladikavkaz because the local authorities in Tskhinvali (South
Ossetia) had not allowed it to be held it there.
Tedeev added that activists in South Ossetia are currently collecting
signatures for a referendum on constitutional changes, which would not
allow Kokoity to advance his candidacy for a third term.
