Nino Burjanadze calls for rapid international investigation of demonstration crackdown on May 26

Ex-Speaker of Georgian Parliament, one of the leaders of the opposition People's Assembly, Nino Burjanadze has called for an international investigation into the events of May 26, when an opposition demonstration was dispersed in the center of Tbilisi, News-Georgia reports.

The opposition rally initiated by the opposition People’s Assembly party was dispersed by police on the night of May 26 on Rustaveli Avenue. According to the official information of the Georgian Interior Ministry, 105 participants of the rally were detained, 2 people died.

Burjanadze and her supporters claim that more people have been killed during the crackdown, while 270 people were detained.

The former speaker demands an independent examination of video recordings. Today she met with Ambassador of Switzerland and asked him to monitor the status of the detainees.
