Georgian PM and Azerbaijani foreign minister discuss Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway construction

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and Georgian Prime
Minister Nika Gilauri have discussed construction of the
Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, Gilauri’s press-secretary Nikoloz
Mchedlishvili said, Trend reports.


They also discussed energy issues. Georgia and Azerbaijan are active
in the sphere.


Mammadyarov and Gilauri had a closed-door meeting. They did not give
comments after the meeting.


Azerbaijan provided Georgia with an additional $575 million for 25
years at a 5% rate for construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.
The sum will be used for construction and rehabilitation of the
Tetritskaro-Akhalkalaki section, construction of the Akhalkalaki
railway station and other railway infrastructure.


The credit was provided by the Kartsakhi-Marabda Company and is not a
state debt. The loan will be returned using profit from realization of
the project.


Georgia received its first loan worth $200 million for 25 years at a rate of 1%.
Adjustments were made in the Marabda – Kartsakhi (Turkey) project. The
total loan sum will reach $775 million.
