According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan, the situation in Almaty remains tense; clashes are still taking place in the city between law enforcement officers and participants in the riots.

According to the Khabar-24 TV channel, the security forces dispersed the terrorists from Republic Square, the akimat (city administration) and the presidential residence were liberated.

The majority of the instigators fled when they heard the first shots. According to some reports, people were injured during the operation; there is no official confirmation of this information.
