Azerbaijan celebrates National Salvation Day

In October 1991 Azerbaijan became an independent state. However, in the early years of independence there was an internal crisis in the country. Chaos reigned in all spheres of life. Day by day Armenian aggression grew. A struggle for power took place between various political forces. The People’s Front demonstrated its inability to run the country. In the summer of 1993 the country stood on the threshold of civil war. At last the People’s Front invited from Nakhichivan an outstanding son of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev. On June 9th Aliyev arrived in Baku.

He managed to prevent civil war in Azerbaijan.

On June 15, 1993, Heydar Aliyev was appointed the chairman of the Supreme Council of the Azerbaijani Republic. This day is marked in the history of the country as National Salvation Day, Trend reports.
