Ancient town discovered on Azerbaijan's Ganja territory
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaA great ancient town called Laso was discovered in the territory of Ganja, Azerbaijan, head of the Ganja Archeological Expedition of the Archaeology and Ethnography Institute at the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Arif Mammadov, said, Trend reports.
He said Ganja was located on the territory called "Sheher burnu" (City cape), in other words Laso in ancient centuries and early Middle Ages.
According to Mammadov, he discovered Laso on a map made by the Romans in the second century BC. The location of Laso town, indicated on this map, corresponds to the location of present-day city of Ganja.
"When Ganja’s name is called, it reminds the Ganja city, which existed on the bank of the Ganja River in the Middle Ages. But the real Ganja is located on an area called "City point". So far, the area called "City point", or Laso, has not been studied by archaeologists," Mammadov said.
Mammadov said he will head the excavations that will start in early July and last by early September himself.
