Director of the Department of Economic Cooperation of the Russian Foreign Ministry Dmitry Birichevsky said that the rapid rise in gas prices in Europe is a consequence of the abandonment of the Russian Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

He noted that planned timely commissioning of this gas pipeline met Russian and European interests, but the project became "a hostage of artificial linkage with other political plots," RIA Novosti reports.
