Nazarbayev’s nephew detained in Kazakhstan
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaKairat Satybaldyuly, a nephew of Kazakhstan’s first President Nursultan Nazarbayev, has been detained on suspicion of embezzlement, the country’s Anti-Corruption Service said.
"The Anti-Corruption Service is investigating a criminal case on the abuse of office duties and large-scale embezzlement at Kazakhtelecom. Kairat Satybaldyuly has been detained on suspicion of committing these crimes. He has been placed in a detention facility," it said, adding that the man might be involved in other crimes undermining the country’s security.
"The investigation continues. Further information is not to be disclosed in the interests of the investigation," it said.
Kairat Satybaldyuly was born in 1970. He occupied various positions in Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee and in the ruling Nur Otan (now Amanat) party. He also ran a business.
