Amcor Plc said Monday it is going to start scaling back operations in Russia.

In a letter from Chief Executive Ron Delia, the company said that while its first focus is the safety of its people in Ukraine, "we recognize that our packaging products help people in communities everywhere with their daily necessities."

Amcor said it will scale down its activities in Russia by focusing its manufacturing on supporting only existing multinational customers, suspending new projects and investments, and discontinuing exports from the country as soon as possible.

It will also continue to explore all strategic options for the business while assessing the rapidly evolving situation.

The company has operated for more than 20 years in Russia, where it continues to ensure compliance with local and international laws. Currently, its three factories in the country generate 2% to 3% of total Amcor sales.
