Main race of Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix begins in Baku

The final race of the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix is ​​taking place in Baku. It will take place from 15:00 to 17:00 local time.

Formula 1 pilots are fighting for the Grand Prix Cup, which this year is dedicated to the reunification of Azerbaijan with its ancestral lands - Shusha and the "Year of the City of Shusha". In addition to this, the official award of the races is dedicated to the 270th anniversary of the city of Shusha, the country's cultural capital.

It should be noted that the length of the route in Baku is 6 kilometers. It has three high-speed sections, 20 turns, the maximum speed on the track is 360 km/h.

Let us remind you that the main "Formula-2" race has already taken place this morning. After passing 29 laps, the winners were determined. Thus, the Norwegian racer Dennis Hauger from the Prema Racing team took first place. Team Carlin driver Logan Sargeant finished second and Felipe Drugovic (MP Motorsport) came in third.

Several incidents took place during the first hour of the final race of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. So, at the start, the pilot of the Williams team, Nicholas Latifi, was fined for the fact that the mechanics of the team left the starting grid later than the allowed time. The pilot had to enter the pit lane to serve his sentence.

Within an hour, three cars dropped out of the race. On the ninth lap, Spanish racing driver Carlos Sainz retired from the race. According to available information, Sainz's car had engine problems. In addition to this, the engine of the Ferrari driven by Charles Leclerc began to smoke. Alfa-Romeo driver Zhou Guanyu also dropped out of the race due to a technical problem. All three cars that retired from the race were powered by Ferrari powerplants.

After 27 laps, Red Bull team drivers Max Verstrappen and Sergio Perez, as well as British race car driver George Russell, representing the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport team, became the leaders of the race.

Then another car with a motor from Ferrari had to end the race. Driver Kevin Magnussen from the Haas team had technical problems. The fifth rider to retire was Aston Martin's Lance Stroll after another engine failure.

As a result, according to the last race's results, Max Verstrappen from the Red Bull team became the winner of the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
