Azerbaijani wrestling team wins gold at European Championship

Wrestling team of Azerbaijan has won two gold medals at the European Youth Championship (U-20) in Rome.

Azerbaijani wrestler Nihad Guluzade (55 kg) defeated Frenchman Aivil Fuake (9:0) and Ukrainian Mykola Khavritsky (3:1). Guluzade, who defeated the German sportsman Georgios Scarpello (5:1) in the semi-final, reached the final. In the crucial battle, the representative of the Azerbaijani team met with Denis Mihai from Romania.The Azerbaijani wrestler, who defeated his opponent with a score of 10:1, became the champion of Europe.

Member of the Azerbaijani national team Lachin Veliyev (87 kg) defeated Ukrainian sportsman Nikita Alekseev (8:5) in one-eighth final. In the quarter-finals, he defeated the Swede Algot Kelman - 4:1, and in the semi-finals he beat the Armenian Vigen Nazaryan - 3:1. In the final, the Azerbaijani wrestler defeated Patrick Gordan from Romania with a score of 3:1 and took gold medal.
