The Georgian Parliament has passed the rules for issuing of biometric
passports, allowing names to be shortened if they are too long to fit
on documents.

Parliament introduced changes to the rules for issuing passports to
Georgians and foreigners. The justice minister passed an order on
biometric passports on June 29.

The new law allows the last letter of names to be emitted if they
don't fit. A full stop at the end will show that the words were cut.

The name and family name must not exceed a total of 30 letters.
The Labor Party spoke out against the shortening of names.
