Turkey plans to launch world's first green tourism program
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaTurkey is going to be the first in the world to launch a national program of green or eco-tourism, which involves the introduction of global sustainable development practices into the tourism industry and the reduction of environmental pollution based on the Paris climate agreement.
According to the Milliyet newspaper, the program will be implemented as part of a cooperation agreement with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and run until 2030.
The start of the project is scheduled for 2023. At this stage, the main points of the eco-tourism program will be determined, as well as contractors who will control its implementation. In February, the participants of the tourist business, who are ready to take part in it, will join the project.
At the second stage, by 2025, the first hotels will be issued "green certificates", and by 2030 it is expected to meet all international standards for sustainable tourism and the Paris climate agreement, which Turkey signed in 2021, TASS reports.
