Aliyev: "The rights of the Armenians of Karabakh will be protected, Azerbaijan will bring benefits to them”
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaAzerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev once again spoke about the status of Armenians in Karabakh. Those who raise the topic of status or independence in Karabakh are the main enemies of the Armenian people, he believes.
"If someone in Karabakh again, for the sake of some kind of populism or out of fear of someone, talks about some kind of status, independence, then you should know that he is the first enemy of the Armenian people, because that the Armenians living in Karabakh will have neither status, nor independence, nor any special privileges. Both the citizens of Azerbaijan and them. Their rights will be protected in the same way as the rights of the citizens of Azerbaijan, as well as the rights of the peoples living in Azerbaijan," Aliyev said in an interview with Azerbaijani TV in the village of Basgal.
Karabakh is an integral part of Azerbaijan, and the Karabakh Armenians need to do the "right step" to integrate into the Azerbaijani society, he added.
Two years after the Second Karabakh War, the Azerbaijani authorities are actively rebuilding the region because Baku needs peace with Yerevan.
"We must start peace talks with Armenia. So far, we have not received a positive response, but I hope we will. It was necessary to create a delimitation commission. They objected to this, but eventually agreed. We need the Zangezur corridor, they objected to this as well. In the coming weeks, we are waiting for the route of the Zangezur corridor from them," the leader of Azerbaijan said.
The Karabakh Armenians were convinced that "Azerbaijan will only bring benefits to them," Aliyev added.
