Dagestan develops tourism and attracts climbers

On July 9 Dagestan will hold a competition on mountaineering under the
auspices of the Ministry of Sport and the administration of the
Dokuzparinsky district of Dagestan, the information agency "Dagestan"
reports.

Climbers already arrived today at the foot of the highest point in
Dagestan - Bazarduzu (4466 m). Athletes are coming from Moscow,
Chelyabinsk, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi, Yekaterinburg and Makhachkala, as
well as Estonia, Israel and Ukraine. The program of events includes
simple and complex routes, hiking trips and an introduction to the

life and culture of the highlanders.

According to the chairman of the Republican Federation of
mountaineering, Peter Leonov, this event is "a modest contribution of

the republic's climbers to the development of tourism in Dagestan."
