Two people were fatally shot and one was wounded when a woman opened fire in Atlanta’s Midtown area Monday afternoon, leading to a search that ended in her arrest at an airport, police said.

At about 1:45 Monday, police responded to a call about a shooting on a busy Midtown block, where they found two people who had been shot, Atlanta police said. About 15 minutes later, while authorities were investigating that scene, they received a call about another person shot at the Colony Square mixed-use campus a block away.

Two of the three had died Monday evening, police said.

Authorities said the same person probably opened fire in the two locations before heading to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where officers used security footage and their “camera network” to track the suspect to the airport, interim police chief Darin Schierbaum said.

Police arrested her “without incident” about 4 p.m., in an area where she would not have needed to go through a security checkpoint. They recovered a handgun that they suspect she used.
