Medvedev hosts presidential council for human rights meeting

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev held today a meeting of presidential council for human rights and civil society's development in the Russian North Caucasus city of Nalchik, RIA Novosti reports.

At first it was expected that the meeting would take place in Stavropol, but eventually the meeting was held in Nalchik, the capital
city of the North Caucasian republic of Kabardino-Balkaria.

The fight against extremism, terrorism and religious fundamentalism were among the issues discussed during the meeting of the presidential council. Members of the council also discussed issues of ethnic and religious conflicts in the region.

In the framework of his visit to the North Caucasus the president also met local religious leaders.

The first meeting of the presidential council for human rights took place in Yekaterinburg in February.
