Georgia among top 3 world hazelnut growers

Georgia has overtaken Azerbaijan in hazelnut production this year and
become one of the top 3 world hazelnut growers, director general of
the Company for Hazelnut Export, Begi Sioridze, said, Business Georgia
reports.

Sioridze said that Georgia produces 35,000 tons of hazelnuts annually.
They are exported to 20 states.

Turkey and Italy are the top 2 hazelnut growers. Turkey holds 75% of
the hazelnut market, Georgia - 5%. Georgian hazelnuts exceeds the
price of Turkish by 20 cents. Nonetheless, the demands for the
Georgian product grow.
