Director-General of the Information and Analytical Center for the
Study of the Social and Political Processes in post-Soviet space of
Moscow State University (MSU) named after M.V. Lomonosov, vice-dean of
the History faculty of the MSU and editor-in-chief of the
information-analytical website "Bulletin of the Caucasus" Alexei
Vlasov, and the Head of Caucasian studies at the Russian State
Humanitarian University, Ismayil Agakishiev, met with staff of the
Azerbaijani International News Agency (AMI) Trend today.
The meeting discussed issues of development of Azerbaijani journalism,
expansion of dialogue between Azerbaijani and Russian journalists,
improvement of professionalism in the preparation of materials and
more active promotion of the work of the Azerbaijani agency in the
international news market.
Vlasov shared his views on the development of journalism in
post-Soviet space, noting that AMI Trend today is one of the most
operational and balanced news agencies in the region.
According to Ismail Agakishiyev, the farther away you live from your
motherland, the more you want to know about it. "I'm always pleased to
read about Azerbaijan from Trend News Agency, where there is less
emotion and more information," Agakishiyev said.
Vlasov in his turn stressed that Russia and Azerbaijan have preserved
friendship throughout the history of Russian-Azerbaijani relations.
"This should be supported at the level of media coverage. In most
countries of Central Asia and the South Caucasus, media is published
in Russian, but we do very little for reporters to communicate with
each other," the political scientist said.
According to him, now more journalists communicate with their Western
counterparts than with those who "speak the same language".
Unfortunately, no one creates joint dialogue areas with Azerbaijani
journalists to regularly meet and exchange information or establish
centers for advanced training, Vlasov said.
He said Trend provides the most comprehensive objective information
about Azerbaijan and the region.
