Georgia celebrates National Khachapuri Day
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaCelebrated on February 27 every year, National Khachapuri Day was created by the Gastronomic Association of Georgia.
It is dedicated to one of Georgia’s signature dishes, which was even added to the Registry of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Georgia in 2019.
There is no single recipe of khachapuri, because each region of Georgia has its own variety of this pastry. For example, Imeretian khachapuri is a round flat bread made with yeast and filled with Imeretian cheese. Megrelian khachapuri is similar to imeruli, but it has an extra layer of cheese added on top.
Vestnik Kavkaza earlier reported that National Geographic magazine published the "Rediscovering khachapuri, Georgia's must-try classic" article.
