Iran not to change its ambassador to Azerbaijan

The Iranian leadership is not going to change its ambassador to Azerbaijan, there are no such decisions, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Khanani said.

He noted that, despite the fact that the change of ambassadors, consuls and other diplomatic representatives was a common process for foreign ministries today, Tehran had not made such decisions regarding its ambassador in Baku.

He also expressed hope that Iran and Azerbaijan would resolve the tension in bilateral relations through negotiations.

Earlier, Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Iran Jeyhun Bayramov and Hossein Amir Abdollahian had a telephone conversation, during which the parties discussed the existing discontent. The Ministers stressed the importance of maintaining contacts in order to resolve misunderstandings.
