The rebels said on Thursday that they had surrounded the Marsa Brega
oil fields, where only a minor part of Gaddafi's loyal troops are. The
area has mine fields that have already killed dozens, ITAR-TASS
reports.

Opposition spokesman Mohammed Zaui says that they are preparing for
the attack. The rebels plan to capture Assabaa, a strategic settlement
80 km south of Jamahiriya.

Commander of the southern rebel battalion Mukhtar Lakhdar says that
they want to start the attack before Ramadan.

Libyan Leader Colonel Gaddafi denied any negotiations with the rebels.
Chairman of the Executive Board of the National Transitional Council
of Libya Mahmoud Jibril said that they will not talk with Gaddafi as
long as he stays in power.
