Victory Day: Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaTens of millions of people died during the Great Patriotic War. On the eve of Victory Day, Vestnik Kavkaza publishes images of the Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier.
The Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier is one of the most poignant monuments dedicated to the Great Patriotic War.
The monument is erected near the village of Khoroshevo, in the Rzhevsky district of the Tver region. Here, in 1942-1943 the Battle of Rzhev, one of the bloodiest in the Great Patriotic war, took place. In 14 months, almost a million Soviet soldiers died, and hundreds of thousands were wounded.
Behind the back of a 25-meter bronze soldier flutters a raincoat, dissolving into a flock of cranes. Under the statue of the soldier, on steel plates forming a corridor, the names of 62,000 Red Army soldiers who died in the Rzhev region are inscribed.
