Turkish opposition criticizes ruling party
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe new constitution to be prepared by Turkey’s government will not be democratic, the main opposition’s deputy chairwoman has hinted, proposing the establishment of a commission with equal representation to shape the charter without bias, Hurriyet Daily News reports.
“A mindset that designs everything will no doubt design the Constitution,” Republican People’s Party (CHP) Group Deputy Chairwoman Emine Ülker Tarhan said during a press conference on Tuesday.
Tarhan criticized the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), for carrying out its own constitutional works without a opposition via a commission comprised of AKP lawmakers.
“To ensure a democratic and liberal Constitution, the commission must consist of equal members of each party, with each member coming to the table without bias and a clean slate” instead of a commission that excludes the opposition and imposes the ruling party’s views, she said.
