Tehran not fulfilling its obligations - Clinton
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaIran's refusal to freeze its 20% uranium enrichment program is an
obvious violation of its international commitments, US Secretary of
State Hillary Clinton told a Senate Foreign Relations Committee
hearing, reports ITAR-TASS.
According to Clinton, Iran continues to store enriched uranium,
regardless of the international community's concerns.
She also said that the US had agreed on a new Security Council
resolution on Iran "with the cooperation of both Russia and China".
In an apparent attempt to deter the Security Council from imposing
more sanctions, Iran on Monday signed an agreement with Turkey and
Brazil over uranium enrichment.
Under the agreement Iran would send about 1,200 kilograms of uranium
it has enriched by 3.5 per cent to Turkey in exchange for 120
kilograms of uranium enriched to 20 per cent. Tehran needs the more
highly enriched uranium for a research reactor that produces medical
radioisotopes.
Nevertheless, Ali Akbar Salehi, Iran's nuclear chief, announced that
despite the agreement with Turkey, Iran is not willing to freeze its
own uranium enrichment program.
