Veterans of Abkhaz-Georgian war support Alexander Ankvab as president

The organisation for veterans of the Abkhaz-Georgian war of 1992-1993,
"Amtsakhar", supports Alexander Ankvab as president of Abkhazia, RIA

Abkhaz President Sergey Bagapsh hs been head of the republic since
2005. He died after lung surgery on May 29, aged 62. The parliament
announced early elections for August 26.


Vice-President Alexander Ankvab, Prime Minister Sergey Shamba and the
opposition leader of the Forum of People's Unity of Abkhazia, Raul
Hajimba, are the candidates for president.


Ankvab is believed to be capable of continuing Bagapsh's policy.


Amtsakhar proposed Bagapsh in 2004, his candidature was supported in 2009.
