While people from North Ossetia go to work in Sochi, nationals from Turkey, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan come to labor in the North Caucasus republic.

The North Ossetia labor-market has never been very rich and the financial crisis made it even worse. Even successful industries have started to discharge their staff. The Company "Istok" has discharged 650 people. Almost 18,000 people are officially registered as unemployed in the republic its total population is 701,800). Employment agencies currently have 201 vacancies for state employees and 706 for commercial workers. There are 3 vacancies for accountants (with 1,528 candidates), one vacancy for an economist (770 candidates), and no jobs at all for
lawyers. Experts ask: why do the higher educational organizations teach the specialists? Maybe they know that the students will leave the republic?

Larisa Kabolova, the president of the North Ossetian employment committee, explains the increase of candidates by the fact that the employment service has become more well-known. The state program is focused on creating 4,000 temporary jobs. It is said in the committee,
that the unemployment has a female face as 60% of the unemployed are women, with half of them boasting higher education.

In the meantime, some enterprises have started to hire staff fromoutside the republic. They explain this by the concrete nature of the work and (unofficially) with the saving of money. For example, "Babeks Jeans" hire Turks and Tajiks in the textile industry, and the group "De-Gusto" has hired "highly-qualified gardeners" from Uzbekistan. Finally, there were 688 foreign employees in the republic at the end of the year. Ossetians themselves work on the construction of the Olympic objects in Sochi. There are 200 of them, even though the salaries are not very
high (around $500-700 a month).
