President Gül approves Turkey's new military commanders

The top commanding officers of the Turkish Armed Forces were appointed on Thursday after three days of deliberations by the Supreme Military Council, Hurriyet Daily News reports.

The new commanders' candidacies were approved today by the country's president, Abdullah Gül.

General Necdet Özel was appointed as Chief of the General Staff, General Hayri Kıvrıkoğlu as Land Forces Commander, Admiral Emin Murat Bilgel as Naval Forces Commander and General Mehmet Erten as Air Force Commander.
